Music with Love - Jennie Muskett

How this all began

During lock-down, there was no live music to be had. Not only was it impossible for musicians to perform, but they couldn’t even make music together.

But somehow, during these dark times, more than 75 leading chamber and orchestral musicians came week after week to my studio in Highgate to give over 30 exquisite chamber music concerts.  With the help of producer team Nick Cohen and Andy Gangadeen every one of them was streamed live, to care homes and music-lovers all over the country. The quality of the musicianship was extraordinary and the generosity of the musicians deeply moving. Most importantly, despite the isolation and disconnection, through music, we connected with each other, reaching people here in the UK and in several other countries.  The musicians played from the heart and for them, it was not only a gift to be able to share their performances with others, but to connect with each other to make music together was a gift in itself.

On a personal level, it was especially important to me, as my blind, 93 year old father was living an isolated existence in a care home. Through our concerts and the generosity of everyone involved, we reached him and so many others, connecting through music. I am indebted to every one of these wonderful musicians.

That was Music with Love.

Now, the music is continuing. Please come and join us in person at Highgate Sessions!

Highgate Sessions

Highgate Sessions is a concert series, given by some of the UK’s leading chamber and orchestral musicians. They are held in a beautiful concert/living room in Highgate with a maximum capacity of 40 guests.

Each concert is very special in it’s own unique way, but they are all relaxed and informal. There is no dress code. You will not be frowned upon for applauding in the ‘wrong’ place! (Tutters and shushers are not invited!) Come and meet the performers for a chat (over a glass) after the concert and enjoy the company of other audience members.

Some musicians give these concerts as part of their preparations for a more formal forthcoming concert, such as at the Wigmore Hall, or in one case, a live concerto performance to be  broadcast on the BBC the following week! Simon Blendis launched his album here, Love is Like a Violin. Other concerts are given as part of artists preparation for recording sessions or just because they feel like it. But each concert is unique, the musicianship is superb -  and you are warmly welcome.

Doors open 45 minutes before each concert

Please join us before the concert starts to join us for a drink, choose your seat, relax and settle in.

There is parking available in the street. Highgate and Archway tube stations are within ten minutes walk. (Or take a bus up the hill from Archway. )

The cost of these concerts is relatively low. Wine and snacks are even included in your ticket price. None of the seats are further than a few feet from the performers and it is a truly exciting experience to hear music in this intimate way. This is a non profit-making venture. If there are any funds remaining after a concert, they are put towards the next event.
